Dr. Stephan A. Kohnen, D.M.D.
Born and raised in Germany, Dr. Stephan A. Kohnen received his D.M.D. degree from the University of Muenster, School of Dental Medicine in 1991. To continue the tradition of his parents and grandfathers serving patients with dental care in Germany, Dr. Kohnen was selected as one of the few international students to attend the three year postdoctoral program in Periodontics and Implantology at Tufts University. This School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA is known for giving its students the best education in the field of periodontal and implant dentistry. Graduating at the top of his class, he received his specialty degree from Tufts in 1997. Dr. Kohnen returned to Europe and became the Head of the Surgical Department of the renowned Dental and Implant Center, the CDC Kliniek, located in the Netherlands.
While practicing there, he was able to develop the All-on-4 Dental Implant procedure as one of the first Periodontists in Europe and placed over 10,000 Dental implants. After leaving Boston, Dr. Kohnen knew he wanted to return to America, because he fell in love with this country, the wonderful people and all the great opportunities to provide patients with outstanding periodontal care. The opportunity arose three years ago, when Dr. Kohnen was invited by several active members of the Great Houston Dental Society to take care of the periodontal and surgical treatment of their patients. Since February 2014 Dr. Kohnen has the honor of the serving local residents and his worldwide clientele in his own practice in the heart of Houston. The Kohnen family was excited to make Houston their home. Dr. Kohnen’s wife, Ines, supports him in the office and their two children, 9-year old Caitlin and 14-year-old Alexander enjoy their new home and have fun with their new friends.
